Courtney Gilbert grew up in Texas, and received her B.A. from the University of Oklahoma in 2001. Two years later she received her Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law.
While in law school she met her husband Justin Gilbert. They returned home to Brazoria County where she began working at the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor. She started handling cases in County Court at Law No. 1 and was quickly promoted to the felony division. Courtney has tried more than 60 jury trials to verdict. In fact, Courtney successfully put one of Texas’ most dangerous child predators in the penitentiary for seven life sentences. To date, this sentence is one of the longest jury prison sentences ever given in the State of Texas.
In 2008, Courtney joined her husband Justin in his general litigation practice handling cases involving civil litigation, criminal law, family law, wills and probate, and real estate matters. In 2016, she returned to the Brazoria County District Attorney’s office where she currently serves as the prosecutor for the Veterans Court and Domestic Violence Court.
Courtney currently serves as a board member for the BISD Education Foundation and Demi’s Difference. Courtney and Justin support many other charities in Brazoria County.
Courtney’s extensive legal expertise in both civil and criminal law have prepared her to handle the complex docket over which the Judge of the County Court at Law No. 1 must preside. She is Tough, Honest and Fair!
Courtney, Justin and their three children live in Lake Jackson and are members of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
